A Purim Masquerade

Celebrate Purim with members of New York's very own Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Myopenbar is hosting A Purim Masquerade:

Calling all Jews! It's Purim. You know, costumes, food-baskets, drinking? It's in the Bible, look it up.

Anyway, we thought we'd help you celebrate with a masquerade ball at a local synagogue, including a performance by the hippest band that's ever approached the Cantorial classics, The Sway Machinery (with members of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, the Arcade Fire, and Tom Waits' sax player). There shall be dancing, Purim treats and, of course, a fountain of booze –- complimentary Colt 45, bitches. What, you were expecting Manischewitz?

I guess you don't have to be a Jew to come, but it helps. RSVP to myopenbar.com/purim.

But what is Purim, the little Gentile asked? If you read the book of Esther in the Torah/Old Testament, you'll discover a story about how the Jewish people escaped slaughter from Haman.
