The red, rubbery ball with the distinct sounding bounce that's caused many a childhood trauma is making a comeback in the Big Apple this winter. If you're interested in joining a sports league in New York City, and prefer that it be more social than competitive, then the New York City Social Sports Club might fit the bill. Pickup games are held on Wednesdays after the end of the league's regular season (3/25/2009). The cost is $15.00 per week.

There were dodgeball games at McCarren Pool last summer, which I briefly mentioned here:

What I didn't mention was the "we wear short-shorts" fashion the hipster dudes were wearing perhaps in their ironic attempt to be sporty. Be forewarned.

During the Hold Steady show at McCarren there were pick-up games of dodgeball and also this massive slip'and'slide. It was really fun b/c there were hipsters in their 20s, middle-aged moms, and 8 yr old boys playing dodgeball together in the rain.
The Dodge ball game at McCarren Park was one of the coolest games i have seen yet. The Hardcore players, intermediates, rookies, and clowns, (daisy duke shorts guy). If it wasn't for one of my many injuries, i would of participated, but instead wound up hacking.(good trade off).
That sounds amazing! I wish I'd known about it!
